Setting up our stopover gîte d‘étape on the Chemin d’Amadour (GR81) didn’t happen overnight. It’s the result of three years of on-and-off work on this house, where we had to carry on living despite the ongoing building work.
We’ll explain our renovation journey in 10 (or rather 11…) stages.
So come along, follow us on this exciting adventure – we’ll take you through it step by step!
Before we could start renovating the gîte d’étape, we had to tackle the basics: repairing the roof, insulating the attic and walls, and installing double-glazed windows.
Early 2025: it’s time to tackle the left wing. Here, everything needs to be demolished: old partitions, false ceilings, the dated bathroom, the floor (which is very creaky), the electrical wiring… everything…
It’s time to renovate this large space! We need to lay a new floor (level this time), put up new partitions and re-install a false ceiling. Let’s leave it to the professionals!
At last we can get our paintbrushes, rollers and pots of paint out again. What a treat! Then it’s time to lay the flooring, fit the skirting boards and assemble the furniture. Here’s a cosy little nook for two.
Whilst we decided to keep the bathroom in the right wing, in the left wing we’ve renovated everything: the shower room and toilet are brand new. With a little help from the experts, of course!
In a gîte d’étape, you need a place to prepare your meals and enjoy a congenial moment around the table. We have therefore provided you with a fully equipped kitchen.
We’ve already told you all about the living room’s design. But here are some photos of the latest work. As you’ll see, it’s become the perfect place to relax and unwind.
